Soumya Shetty is a Research Associate in the Division of Population Health, Health Services Research and Primary Care at the University of Manchester. She works on the ACED project, investigating inequalities in cancer diagnostic outcomes with a particular focus on primary care and early cancer detection.

Soumya recently completed her PhD in Health Psychology at the University of Leeds, where her research examined inequalities in bowel cancer screening participation across different populations. Her work combines qualitative, quantitative, and evidence synthesis methods to understand the behavioural, social, and structural factors that influence engagement with cancer prevention and early detection services.

Her research interests include health inequalities, cancer prevention and early diagnosis, behavioural science, patient experience, and primary care research. She has experience conducting qualitative interviews, ethnographic observations, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and large-scale survey research. Through her work, she aims to generate evidence that can inform interventions, policy, and practice to reduce inequalities in healthcare access and outcomes.

Outside of her current role, Soumya is interested in interdisciplinary research that brings together behavioural science, public health, and primary care to improve population health and patient outcomes.
