Member of the International Advisory Board.
Professor Zips is the Clinical Director for Radiation Oncology and Radiation Therapy at CCC Tübingen-Stuttgart, University Hospital and Medical Faculty.
Professor Zips’ team develops novel approaches for biologically individualized radiation oncology in the focus of the Personalized Medicine program at the University of Tübingen. Functional imaging in the context of radiation resistance of tumours is addressed in several preclinical studies using MR/PET (cooperation with Bernd Pichler) and small animal high-precision irradiation.
These preclinical studies are accompanied with early clinical trials, integrating functional imaging in biomarker and interventional trials in head and neck cancer, prostate cancer and rectal cancer. Biomarker research includes functional tests of intrinsic radiation sensitivity, genomics and hypoxia-related markers.
Likewise, radiomics are investigated in cooperation with the department of diagnostic radiology to derive prognostic parameters for individualized radiotherapy. An emerging field of research represents MR-guided radiation therapy. Through funding by the DFG Tübingen, the team have installed the first integrated 1.5T/Linac in Germany. In pre-clinical models, specific mechanisms of radiation resistance such as migration, oncochannels and SDF1/CXCR4 pathways are investigated for example in glioblastoma.
